HISTORY, FACILITY, PHILOSOPHY
J&J Marine was founded in 1990 by Jeff Botelho. Originally a custom
metal shop, Jeff’s leading designs in towers, marine canvas and custom
boat work set him years ahead of any designer in the industry. The addition
of business partner Steven Anderson in 1999 has helped usher in a new era of
expansion and development at J&J Marine.
J&J Marine’s current home in Somerset, Massachusetts on the shores
of the Taunton River is both steeped in history and ahead of time. Built
on the remains of what had been the Parks Shellac factory, the earliest known
use of the site was as a shipyard in 1642. Completed in 2006, J&J
Marine is the first entirely new boatyard to be permitted in Massachusetts
in 27 years. Situated on seven waterfront acres, with over 1000 feet
of riverfront, we are located 18 miles from Newport. With a keel depth
of up to 34 feet our facility is capable of handling vessels up to 168,000
pounds. We have invested years of work and millions of dollars to create
a first class, full service boatyard capable of handling all of your boating
needs.
Here at J&J history is important to us. We understand that what
is new isn’t always better. This is why we work hard to keep the
old traditions of shipbuilding alive. We combine time tested methods
of old fashioned design and craftsmanship with the most up to date achievements
in modern technology. Personal history also means a lot to us. J&J
Marine has built a stellar reputation built on trust and quality of service. Many
of our customers return year after year, boat after boat. When we bought
the land where our new facility stands it was an industrial wasteland. Everyone
said it couldn’t be saved. We didn’t listen. Where
others saw old and hopeless we saw a historic opportunity. At J&J
Marine there is nothing that can’t be solved with passion and hard work.
